Dinner on the roof

Temps hit low 60's yesterday so we celebrated with dinner on the roof. Tuna noodle casserole with fritos on top, a culinary delight, per request one S. Andersen. A good time had by all, getting food up and down took longer than the meal I'd bet.

Bear Cove

Seth and I hit up Bear Cove over Memorial Weekend, which meant driving to the Kenai Penninsula with every other Anchoragite. Took us 6 hours to drive down and 4 on the way back- traffic!!

Went across the bay with dad and the sisters to the cabin. Set-up the hot tub, beach combed, hiked around, the usual. On one such hike we found a dead eagle, the girls we in shock about how big it was up close, the size of the talons.

While we were waking up Sunday a yearly black bear came out to eat beach grass. Ginger (our gaurd dog) was sleeping at the door the whole time. Dad and the girls went home on Sunday and Seth and I spent the day rowing around the coves and checking out different properties. The weather was wonderful, sun tans to be had!

On Monday morning Seth and I woke-up to banging on the porch, a much larger black bear had out little green dry sack in his mouth and ran up the hillside to tear it to shreds. We yelled, we threw things, he just laid there and ate my hat and the mosquito dope. After the bear was satisfied he headed back down to the porch, while we were standing there yelling. It was not scared so Seth finally got out the shot gun and fired a shot to scare it off. Finally worked.

Picked up by the water taxi and on the way home we saw a pod of humpbacks and a mother and baby orcas and sea otters. Back at dad's house a group of 34 Sandhill Cranes landed across the street. Pretty great trip all in all.

Could this be Spring?

It's late May and things look to be warm, sunny and plants are growing, not Bonnie's pumpkins though.

Seth recently took a trip to see the fam in WA, go to his cousins wedding and in general hang around with the notoriously crazy Andersen, Anderson clan. He saw the best band of his life, Open Country Joy, hung out with Dylan and Bear.

More time for climbing and skiing means 4-8's to Seth. Climbing at Weiner Lake and skiing around Peak 3 with friends.

May in the garden

Mid-May in Anchorage this year means pretending you are gardening. It is still way way too cold to plant outside, too cold to sit outside and drink your morning coffee without long underwear, so Seth and I spent the afternoon digging. A rototiller costs surprisingly little and worked surpsingly well. The old neighbor men came over to give us a run-down, neighbors wandering by wondering what we were doing, if only I could truely explain how neither of us really know.
